Compact Computing

I know the prices in the UK for Samsung's N510 is high (equivalent of $650), but are you a little tempted?

I like my NC10, but I have to say an extra inch of screen space and a bit more resolution that would bring would be very useful. The NVIDIA Ion GPU is nice, but it really does come down to that extra screen space for me.

My only reservation now is the weight of course. I really hope Samsung can figure out a way of making an 11" screen netbook w/ 6-cell with a weight under 2.5 lbs. That would mean computer, power brick and gadgets would fit in my bag at under 3 lbs...That’s what I want...that’s what I need. Nevertheless, when I buy another netbook it is going to be an 11" model for sure.

Weight, and battery life. Remember that extra grunt might end up being a drain on the power, but hopefully that will be compensated by their new energy efficient screens. Fingers crossed. As an NC10 owner, I indeed have my eye on this model :)

I guess the N510 could weight only 2.7 lbs (that's the 3 cell...maybe), so that seems impressive given teh 12" model from early this years is 3.3 lbs.

Maybe the N520 will be slimmer....a boy can dream!

I'm guessing that the N510 will cost significantly less if/when it's made available in the US. But we'll probably have to wait a while for details. When I contacted Samsung USA for information, they knew about as much as I did.

I guess I am lucky. My NC10 is the perfect size for me. I had a Eee 4G and the screen & keyboard were just too small for me to comfortably use. The NC10 is a good compromise between usability, portability, weight and battery life. I wouldn't want to carry anything larger or heavier.

See I would not mind larger if it coudl be lighter. An 11" netbook that weighted 2.3-2.5 lbs would be heaven for me. But I can see it both ways, so I'm not sour on my NC10 at all. In fact my niece will soon be a proud owner of a Pink NC10 from her uncle.

Yep, I can't deny that the NC10 is a great size. I wouldn't mind something "a tiny bit" bigger but then I've only ever owned one laptop/netbook so it's hard to know :)!
